Homework Policy

Homework:

Reading- Your child will be asked to read for a period of twenty (20) minutes each evening. The goal for every child in our classroom is to read as many books as possible this year. **You must sign your child’s reading log each and every night for them to get credit for reading assignments and initial their agenda. This time will be increased as the year progresses.

Spelling/ Word Work- A list of 5 high frequency words and 5 words from their word sort will come home every week on the newsletter. They will be tested on these words on Friday along with their “sort.”

Math- Third graders will have math homework nightly, with the exception of    Fridays. The homework will be found in their math folder, which will include daily work so that you can see examples of similar work that we are studying in class. Please make sure to return the math folder daily so that I may check for understanding.

A small amount of additional homework may be assigned at times, however there will never be homework assigned on the weekends. I will be noting daily which students have done homework and the quality of work turned in. REMEMBER: Homework is not meant to be a test of parent skills, but a reinforcing tool for facts learned in the classroom.
